Sharon Hager

My Husband Karl & I have been members of The Gas City Dog Club since 1982. We are now the members with the most years with the Club.

Sharon has been an instructor with the Club since “83. During this time I have been able to attend many seminars & learned some new techniques. I have been lucky enough to attend seminars given by Dr. Ian Dunbar, Jean Donaldson, Emma Parsons, Cindy Leung & many more talented trainers & Judges going as far as Vancouver. I have always been very active in obedience training my own dogs. I have been lucky enough to have owned & trained some great Westies along the way receiving some really high scores that placed us in the top 3 dogs in Canada, for our breed several times. I am very fortunate to have a lot fun & good friends as my training partners. I love meeting & making new & old friends along the way. I have worked very hard at keeping myself current in training methods; I read a lot of training books & always use positive methods. I have trialed Westies for about 25 years & now I am busy training Toy Fox Terriers. I have always loved the terrier breeds; they are challenging, problem solvers & independent thinking dogs, who can train you in a matter of minutes. Since I am basically the only instructor with our Club right now, who has & trains small dogs, I teach the small dog classes, I also teach the Level 1 Advanced & other advanced classes as well & I love teaching. I get a real sense of accomplishment; I love to teach my students that training their dog can be a lot of fun. I meet a lot of very interesting people & my students challenge me to keep learning more. I love to work with & train my dogs, most dogs love to learn especially with the positive methods that we use. I have taught my dogs to paint pictures & to play piano. We have entertained many adults & children at the Farmers Market & Stampede.

This past summer we (my dogs & I) along with a training partner & her dog attended some big Dog Shows in Calgary. I was lucky enough to get CKC Rally O Novice titles on 2 of my dogs Bandit & Indie & have 1 dog Rebel that needs 1 more leg to complete his title. Cassie is just starting her training. Rally O is a very fun new Obedience Title you can earn with your dog, I also teach this in our Level 1 Advanced class.
